Over the past few weeks took over 1100 photos at the Market. Picked my favorite black/white and color to post. Looking at them I realize it’s not a tourist post card view of the place…counting on this being a good thing.

Used the Blurb application to create and print an Amsterdam Bike Club prototype book. This post includes some single image two page spreads.

Amsterdam is a city in motion. It’s almost impossible to take a photo there that doesn’t have a bicycle in it.

There sheer physical presence is extraordinary to the visitor, ordinary and unremarkable to the residents.

What does this mobility and its means look and feel like?

The Amsterdam Bike Club is a photography project created to answer this question. These photos are the first efforts, from the fall of 2009 and 2010.

Amsterdam’s bikes are its sculptures and statues, and simultaneously, like blurred figures racing around a video game.

They are jet black mostly, set in background shades of sepia.
